AIB faults implementation of safety recommendations`

The Accident Investigation Bureau has faulted the implementation process adopted by the regulators in the Nigerian aviation sector to curb air crashes.
The Commissioner, AIB, Mr. Akin Olateru, lamented that in the last one year, the bureau had published 10 final reports, one Safety Bulletin and made 35 safety recommendations, which the industry particularly would gain from, but not much had been done in terms of implementation.
Olateru, who released causal factors of the crashes and incidents, explained that it was terrible to be bringing out reports for accidents that had happened over 10 years ago, stating that no lesson would have been
learnt.
He particularly identified the accident involving Gitto Construczioni Generali, adding that the airline has ceased to operate as the owner is deceased and there is no lesson to give to the aircraft
owners.
“AIB does not have powers of enforcement of recommendations and that is why the body is collaborating with the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority.
Meanwhile, the Bureau has launched a mobile application, AIB Mobile App, to offer investigators new and more convenient way to receive Aircraft Accident Report in real time and improve engagement with Nigerians by providing easy and open access to the Bureau and its activities.
“Pictures can be uploaded on the app. This can greatly assist investigations. It is a new and more convenient way to receive Aircraft Accident Report in real time, thus increasing promotional opportunities with push notifications and more, which depict its core objectives of Accident and Incidence investigation reports,” he added.
