The Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, has directed the X-Squad of the Force to monitor the strict implementation of the “Bail is Free” campaign programme.

Giving the directive during the official launch of the programme in Minna, the Niger State capital, Idris said he had given powers to the X-Squad to arrest, detain and discipline erring police officers across the country.

“The X-Squad of the Nigeria Police Force has been sent out to all the states of the Federation to monitor compliance with the Bail is Free campaign and given powers to arrest, detain and discipline any erring Police officer,” he said.

Idris, who was represented by the Force Public Relations Officer, Superintendent Jimoh Moshood, said the ‘Bail Is Free’ campaign policy was introduced to stamp out corruption from the force.

He also directed that the campaign should be replicated in the 36 states of the country.

“The Inspector General of Police and his management team pay special attention to issues of corruption allegation, especially as it concerns bail of suspects in police custody,” he said.

The IGP further noted that the force embarked on aggressive community and people-oriented engagement to ensure effective service delivery.

In his welcome address, the Niger State Police Commissioner, Mr. Austin Agbonlahor, said the launch of the campaign was part of the IGP’s efforts to police the country, based on international core values and integrity, ensure rule of law prevail and shun corruption.

He explained that the police would operate within the principle of democracy to make Nigeria safer and secure by demonstrating professionalism.
