Blame FG for Nigerian immigrants’ ordeal in Libya – Reps member

member of the House of Representative, Hon. Tony Nwulu, has said that the Federal Government should be held responsible for the ill-treatment of some Nigerians in Libya.

Nwulu, who represents Oshodi/Isolo Federal Constituency II, told our correspondent that the failure of the government to meet the yearnings and aspirations of the people was the major reason for the illegal massive movement of Nigerians seeking greener pastures to Libya.

The lawmaker said the situation was becoming worrisome and that the government should not fold its arms and watch Nigerians in other countries being continually maltreated.

He also faulted parents and guardians for giving out their children and wards to dubious people based on the false assurance that they would have access to a better life in Libya and other countries.

“What I’m saying is that if the country is better, people will not go on such dangerous voyage. People are going because the situation in the country is not good, people are hungry, and there is no job,” he said.

Nwulu also blamed parents across the country for the situation, saying, “Any parent that is contributing money for his or her child to go to Europe through the Sahara desert, should be arrested because it is an offence.”

He, therefore, advised that sponsors of the victims should not be spared by the government, after thorough investigation.

The lawmaker said, “To get them, a lot of people coming from Libya should be detained. We will question those people coming back from Libya, who are being deported. If you go to Synagogue Church every Sunday, you will see those asking TB Joshua to give them money to start up something because they just came back from Libya and they are broke.

“If the government is serious, they would have arrested these people and they will tell you who and who sponsored them. What I’m saying is that until you tackle these people, you won’t get  anywhere, because this  same people have been convincing each child and their parents to release them and even go and look for money to borrow to sponsor these children.”
