Buhari can’t change Nigeria without inflicting pain – Akande

The former chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress and former governor of Osun State, Chief Adebisi Akande, has described President Muhammadu Buhari as a “complicated” leader searching for pain killers to heal an ailing country.
Akande, who claimed that President Buhari inherited the present economic recession from the 16-year rule by Peoples Democratic Party, argued that the Buhari administration was not the cause of the current economic recession.
The elder statesman, therefore, urged Nigerians to persevere the current hard times confronting the nation, saying that the President Buhari-led Federal Government would not bring the desired change without Nigerians experiencing pains.
He assured that the President was trying hard to get pain killers to relieve Nigerians of their pains.
Akande, while speaking on a radio programme in Osogbo, likened Nigeria to a dying baby requiring a surgical operation to survive, stressing that Buhari had been carrying out such a surgical operation on the nation.
He added that such a surgical operation would surely bring pains to the populace.
Exonorating Buhari further on the current economic recession, the ex-governor berated critics and the major opposition party’s claims that the change promised by the APC was a ruse.
He maintained that the APC came to save Nigeria from the bad governance PDP subjected it to for 16 years.
Akande said, “Buhari inherited economic recession from the PDP. So, they (PDP) should not be talking now. They (PDP) should know they are talking to intelligent Nigerians. The past governments led us here.
“Buhari promised Nigerians to restore peace to the country by ending terrorism and he has done this. Terrorism is more painful on Nigerians than economic recession. He promised to fight corruption and he has been doing well fighting it.
“APC came to save Nigeria from the bad governance PDP has put Nigeria in the last 16 years. The party left diseases in the country and APC came to remove the diseases. So, Buhari is like a surgeon and a surgeon needs to cut your flesh and bone while operating on you. This will bring pain but you have to endure it in order to get healed. This is what Buhari is doing.
“Buhari inherited a dying baby (Nigeria) who needs surgical operation to live and the surgeon (Buhari), who needs to cut some things in the body and this is the pain Nigeria is passing through. He has been trying to get pain killers to heal Nigeria.
“The President is not ready to take the government money and at the same time arrest anyone caught stealing public funds. Buhari is a man of very high integrity, he doesn’t want to steal your money and he doesn’t want you to steal. He is a very complicated man.”
