Buhari’s aides, ministers insensitive to Nigerians’ plight – Labour Party

The Labour Party has alleged that President Muhammadu Buhari is in the grip of some aides and ministers insensitive to the problems confronting ordinary Nigerians.
The LP said that most of those surrounding the President were hawks, who took advantage of his recent ill health to perpetrate corruption and other illegal acts.
The Ogun State Chairman of the LP, Mr. Abayomi Arabanbi, made this allegation in an exclusive interview with our correspondent in Abeokuta, the state capital.
Aranbandi noted that, although President Buhari had continued to strive to make the country better, the “hawks” in his government had continued to slow down the progress of his administration.
He added that in spite of his administration’s anti-corruption stance, other officials of his government had continued to carry on in their alleged illegal acts with impunity.
He said, “A lot of people cashed in on Mr. President’s ill health to perpetrate all manners of illegality and corruption. And I think a lot of ministers are very corrupt.
“The current administration, even do I want to give it to the sitting President? He is trying his best but the President is surrounded by many hawks, people that are not even sensitive to the yearnings of Nigerians.”
The LP state chairman argued that the situation the President found himself had been responsible for his selective fight against corruption.
He, therefore, expressed confidence that former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, would combat corruption better than President Buhari, if given the opportunity to rule the country.
Arabanbi described the former vice president as “a man of his words who would not pay lip service to fighting corruption.”
He said, “Atiku is a man that will be able to take his decision, stand by what he believes in more than even the present administration. So, I think he will be able to do that. He will be able to fight corruption; he is not going to do it with lip service, like the one we are currently facing.
“I think I want to believe him (Atiku) more than the present administration because he seems to be a neutral person and a man that will take the bull by the horn. When you fight a selective anti-corruption war, a lot of people will not have anything to do with you and will not believe you.
“The former Vice President will be able to fight corruption in Nigeria more than the present administration, if given the power and the mantle of leadership to rule Nigeria.”
The LP chairman also threw his weight the behind the Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Aisha Alhassan, for supporting Atiku’s aspiration for the Presidency
of the country in the 2019 elections.
