CACOL urges Buhari to be steadfast on anti-corruption crusade

The Centre for Anti -Corruption and Open Leadership has enjoined President Muhammadu Buhari  not to be afraid of standing alone for the truth in the crucial war against corruption.
This is as the anti-corruption body also expressed the hope that the anti-corruption campaign would not be compromised in whatever quantum for political expedience, “as we enter the few months left for the next year general elections.
Addressing journalists at a press conference in Lagos on Wednesday, CACOL Executive Chairman, Comrade Debo Adeniran, said, “It is curious to note that while Mr. President professed anti – corruption programme, neither his party nor the governors from the same party has adopted or domesticated the policy.”
He said for the policy to BE meaningful, it cannot be a one man presidential show.
He therefore called and challenged all governmental agencies, state and local governments as well as private organisations to openly declared the anti – corruption creed as part of their corporate and social responsibilities.
Adeniran also called the attention of all anti – corruption agencies to the legions of petitions on corruption cases which CACOL and other organizations have submitted to them, saying they must not be swept under the carpet.
“We strongly believe that body language, integrity and personal example as exemplary as they may seem is never enough to deter corruption. The crusade must move to the next phase, it must become ‘massified’, owned by the entire nation. This is the way to make it a national heritage,” Adeniran said.
CACOL also lamented the level of decay of Nigeria’s infrastructure saying most of the country’s highways are riddled with gullies and traps big enough to catch a tribe of elephants.
“Commuters now waste productive hours on the roads because of the state of disrepair . Most Nigerians are asking what does the state provide for them with their tax, levies etc because all these needs are sold sponsored “, it said.
Adeniran admonished the electorate to be eternally vigilant with all eyes opened as 2019 general elections approaches saying nobody should be given free mandate without critical interrogation of the person’s profile and manifestoes that can be used to hold them accountable while in office.
