Construction firm drags man to court for stealing diesel

Slava Yeditepe Construction Company in Osogbo, the capital of Osun State, has dragged a man, Odediran Olusegun, to court for stealing its diesel.

The company, which had arrested Olusegun and handed him over to the police accused, the 40-year-old man of stealing 12, 107 litres of diesel stored within its premises.

The police prosecutor, Mr. Mireti Wilson, informed the court on Tuesday that the accused person stole the diesel worth two million, four hundred and twenty one thousand and four hundred naira (N2,421,400.00).

The police said the accused committed the offence during the month of October, this year.

Wilson said Olusegun committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 390(9) of the Criminal Code, Cap 34, Vol. II, Laws of Osun State, Nigeria.

But Olusegun entered a not guilty plea to the one-count charge of theft brought against him.

His counsel, Mrs Akintajuwa Oluwayemisi, urged the court to grant him bail in liberal terms.

Magistrate Olusola Aluko granted the accused person bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in the same amount.

Aluko ruled that the sureties should to swear to affidavit of means, produce tax clearance certificate, while one of the sureties must be a civil servant in the state.
