Ahead of the December 9 national convention of leading opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party, where a new leadership is to emerge for the party, a socio-political group, Intellectual Young Leaders Network, formed on the platform of upcoming political party- Young Progressives Congress, has described as “deceitful and untrue”, a statement credited to the PDP that it would focus on youth inclusiveness in governance, if elected into power.
The group, in a statement by its National Secretary (Strategies & Planning), Muhammad Rili, said the PDP lacked sincerity in its dealings, adding that it would not relent in its effort to ensure political parties parading themselves as youth platform are boycotted by all Nigerian youths in the elections.
“How can Bode George at 72 years, Jimi Agbaje at 60 years, Gbenga Daniel at 61 years, Tunde Adeniran at 70 years, Touheed Adedoja at 66 Years, Rashidi Ladoja at 73 years, Raymond Dokpesi at 66 years and Uche Secondus at 62 years become the leaders of a party that claimed to be concerned with the youthful population?
“These and many have spoken loudly about their disgruntled minds, and impoverished understanding for the new dawn of a common Nigerian thinking capacity,” the group complained.
While commending the party for putting its house in order in strengthening the country’s democracy, the group nonetheless said, “We strongly condemn the imposition of leaders in all political parties’ Constitution; we reject the disguised idea of remoteness, subservience and gerontological approach to the youth. IYLN-YPC promised to ensure that youths are not lowered to political tools and nonentity in their country, as the future belongs to them.
“We reject such clear relegation of our capacity as youth by all political parties; we wish to make it categorically clear that unless youths are considered in party leadership significantly, we cannot be deceived by anyone, no matter the spoon-feeding and the delusional statements from disgruntled people who have invested largely to challenge our smart existential potentiality as intellectuals. We shall boycott such dishonest and unfair arrangement to gamble with our future as youths,” it concluded.
