Court remands Hausa teenager for stabbing man’s eye with knife in Osun

An 18-year-old Hausa settler in Osogbo, Osun State, Nuhu Abdullahi, was on Thursday remanded in prison custody by an Osogbo Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stabbing a fellow northerner in the eye with a knife.
The police informed the court that Abdullahi assaulted one Bashiru Muhammad, and inflicted injuries on him in his right eye, when a disagreement ensued between them in the Hausa community at Sabo area of Osogbo.
The prosecutor, Sergeant Sunday Ajayi, told the court that the accused conspired with others now at large before committing the offence on April 24, at Sabo Area in Osogbo.
Ajayi said the offence was contrary to Sections 516(A) and 355 of the Criminal Code Cap 34 Vol. 11 Laws of Osun, 2003.
The police prosecutor also informed the court that Abdullahi had attempted to escape from detention at the Dugbe Police Division, Osogbo, where he was kept.
Ajayi said that the police were preparing another charge against Abdullahi and that the charges of conspiracy and assault already slammed on the accused would be consolidated with the allegation of attempting to escape from police cell.
As a result of this, the plea of the accused person was not taken.
Magistrate Fatimoh Sodamade, therefore, ordered that the accused be remanded in prison custody.
She adjourned the case till July 27, 2017 for mention.
