Court remands hotel manager for abduction, attempted rape of woman

A 52-year-old hotel manager, George Morakinyo, has been remanded at the Ilesa prison by a Magistrate’s court sitting in Osogbo, for allegedly abducting a woman, Rotimi Elizabeth, and attempting to rape her in one of the hotel rooms.
Morakinyo, who managed Morack Hotel in Osogbo, the capital of Osun State, was accused of seducing Elizabeth into the hotel room and locking her inside for several hours before he attempted to force her to bed.
Police prosecutor, Rasaki Lamidi, told the court on Wednesday that the manager committed the offence sometimes in September, 2017 at Morack Hotel, Osogbo.
Lamidi said the accused person also planned to engage the victim in prostitution.
He said the accused person abducted the victim without the consent of her parents and abused her several times during the period she was held in the hotel room.
The prosecutor argued that the offence committed by the accused person contravened Sections 22A(1)(2),222,225,2226 of the Criminal Code Cap 34 Volume.II, Laws of Osun State of Nigeria 2003.
Morakinyo pleaded not guilty to the four-count charge slammed on him by the police.
Counsel to the accused person, Bola Abimbola, applied for the bail of his client in the most liberal terms, adding that the offences were bailable.
Objecting the bail application, the prosecutor informed the court that the victim was currently hospitlised and receiving treatment.
Magistrate Adenike Olowolagba upheld the prosecution’s objection and ordered the remand of Morakinyo at Ilesa prison.
Olowolagba then asked the defence counsel to file a formal bail application and adjourned the case till November 22, for hearing.
