Customs intercept N67.247m contraband in Ogun

Operatives of the Nigeria Customs Service in Ogun State have seized items with Duty Paid Value of N67.247million in the last two weeks of January from suspected smugglers.

The Public Relations Officer of the state Area Command, Abdullahi Maiwada, made the disclosure in Abeokuta while speaking on the anti-smuggling activities of customs operatives at the Command.

Maiwada said that about 13 fairly used vehicles, two means of conveyance, 17 motorcycles, 383 bags of rice (50kg) as well as six sacks of secondhand clothes, shoes and bags, were intercepted by Customs officers.

He said others, including 276 kegs of petrol, otherwise known as Premium Motor Spirit, nine drums, 32 kegs of diesel and five drums of kerosene, were seized as part of efforts by the officials to curb the menace of smuggling in the country.
