Day reckless LASTMA official nearly killed commuters in Lagos

Lagos State Transport Management Authority official, simply identified as Ibrahim, almost caused the death of some residents of the state last Monday, after he apprehended a bus and allegedly demanded bribe from the driver of the vehicle.

An eye witness, who pleaded anonymity, recalled that trouble began when the LASTMA official, at Ilupeju bypass, decided to stop an interstate bus.

He said, “The driver had not done anything when the LASTMA official stopped the bus and told him to do the needful. The driver told him he had not made any money, but he decided to arrest him. He asked the driver to alight from the vehicle and took over the bus from him.

It was in the process of trying to reverse the bus that its gear got hooked, but a truck was coming towards us with full speed. In the process, some of us summoned the courage to jump off the bus and sustained serious injuries, while a few of us, who couldn’t make it, committed our lives in God’s hands

“It was in the process of trying to reverse the bus that its gear got hooked, but a truck was coming towards us with full speed. In the process, some of us summoned the courage to jump off the bus and sustained serious injuries, while a few of us, who couldn’t make it, committed our lives in God’s hands.

“At the end, the truck driver was able to swerve the trailer and managed to stop the vehicle by ramming it on a fence beside our bus.”

The eye witness added, “Later, we realised that the truck lost its brake and the LASTMA official had already blocked his route with the bus. It was just God that saved us.”

He added that the dangerous situation led to a mob trying to beat up the LASTMA man. He was, however, saved by some people, and in the ensuing commotion, the LASTMA official escaped from the scene of the incident.
