Don’t shy away from politics, Obasanjo tells Christians

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has urged Christians not to shy away from participating in politics.
Obasanjo, who debunked the notion that politics is a dirty game, said unless Christians were involved in it, bad politicians would continue to play dirty politics in the country.
He spoke at the 5th Christian Leaders’ Capacity Conference, held at the Deeper Bible Church Camp in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.
“Politics is a dirty game. It is not politics that is a dirty game, it is when you leave politics to dirty people, then the result you will get will be dirty; then you start blaming politics rather than blaming those dirty people in whose hands you have left politics,” Obasanjo said.
The former president, who enjoined the church to actively participate in the nation’s politics, charged Christians to vie for political offices at the local, state and federal levels of government.
“So, for the sake of our country, the church must be an active participant. Encourage those who will participate in politics for the good of our country,” he said.
He further admonished Christians to be steadfast in their faith and continue to be good citizens of the country.
Governor Ibikunle Amosun, who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Mr. Taiwo Adeoluwa, called for the continued support of the Christians to steer the affairs of the state to a greater height.
The state Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria, Bishop Tunde Akin-Akinsanya, said that the event was organised by the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria to mobilise Christians for the convention.
