DON’T USE FORCE ON BOKO HARAM, NIGER DELTA AVENGERS , PEACE CORPS TELLS FG.

The Ogun State Command of Peace Corps of Nigeria on Tuesday, said that the use of force cannot solve the problem of insecurity and other challenges facing the country .

This, the group disclosed against the background of the incessant attacks of Boko Haram and Niger Delta Avengers who have been bombing the country’s pipelines.

Speaking at the 2016 international day of Peace Corps Celebration held at Asero, Abeokuta, with the theme- “The Sustainable Development Goals Building Block For Peace”. The State Commandant Peace Corps of Nigeria, Patriot Olalekan Yusuff cautioned the federal government not to use force to resolve national issues.

According to him, the idea of making use of guns to settle the insecurity challenges posed by Boko Haram as well as the militant would only create more problems, adding that the FG should adopt peace as an option.

He said, “the high rate of insecurity and other challenges confronting Nigeria can never be resolved with gun, as we know that two wrongs can never make a right.

“What the country need is the adoption of peaceful techniques in resolution of disputes and identification of potential threats before it get escalated,” he added.

Yusuff stated that the House of Representative has passed the bill of the Nigeria Peace Corps into law, advised that peace should be given chance to reign in the country in order to bolster development in the nation .

He said, “it is only when we give peace priority that the nation can witness a sustainable development”..

The PCN Commandant also reiterated that the group in the state has “been assisting security agents in monitoring and intelligence gathering “.

The Ogun State Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Abimbola Oyeyemi, disclosed that federal government should not considered violent or the use of guns to solve Niger Delta and Boko Haram Crisis .

Abimbola who was represented by ASP Silas Aladeoye said, “violent can’t be use to tackle violent, everything can’t be tackled with the use of gun, that is why we need the Peace Corps.”

Also speaking, the Guest Lecturer, Mrs Tope Olaifa, represented by Mrs Dare Ima Ima adopted peace as the techniques required to resolve the problems of insecurity.

She also added that the youth were the agent of peace in the nation saying, “when you make use of the youth as the instruments of peace, there will be peace in the nation”.
