Edo PDP reps member, party chieftains may defect to APC

  • ‘It’s mere propaganda’

Indications emerged at the weekend that some Peoples Democratic Party members of the House of Representatives from Edo State and other party chieftains may soon defect to the ruling All Progressives Congress ahead of the one year anniversary of the Governor Godwin Obaseki-led administration in the state.

Edo APC State Secretary, Mr. Lawrence Okah, who disclosed this in a chat with our correspondent, said the party had scheduled a tour of the 18 local government areas ahead of the governor’s one year in office with a mandate to harvest the remnants of the members of the PDP in the state.

‘’We have one party system in the state. We are restructuring the state to be a one-party state. We don’t have PDP in Edo anymore. And so, we are expecting more members, including House of Representatives members and leaders of the party soon,’’ Okah said.

He, however, commended party faithful for voting overwhelmingly for Obaseki during the party’s primary, adding that under one year in office, the governor had not only redefined politics in the state but had restored sanity and orderliness to the state.

On his part, the State APC Chairman, Mr. Anslem Ojiezua, described Governor Obaseki’s administration as one year of focus, determination, effectiveness and continuity in terms of infrastructure.

He also commended President Muhammadu Buhari’s economic policies in the last two years targeted at the fight against corruption, recovery of stolen wealth and revamping the
economy.

But the PDP in the state described the rumour of defection of its members to the APC as mere
propaganda.

The PDP State Publicity Secretary, Chris Nehighare, said none of the party members would move over to the APC that had imposed hardship on the
citizens.

He said that the PDP remained strongly organised and would continue to look forward to take over power from President Buhari in 2019.

The Edo PDP spokesman added that the APC was only bragging about its failure in the state.
