Eid-el-kabir: Nigeria must develop capacity to improve production- Aregbesola

Osun State Governor, Rauf Aregbsola, on Monday charged Nigerians to rededicate themselves towards improving their level of productivity with a view to turning the nation’s economy around.

While addressing journalists shortly after he joined thousands of Muslim faithful in the state to observe a two rakat prayer to mark this year’s eid-el-kabir at the Osogbo Central Eid Ground, Aregbesola said the nation’s economic recession called for sober reflection.

The governor expressed regret that Nigeria’s huge population over the years had not translated to production, stressing that it had rather contributed to the nation’s present economic quagmire.

He argued that Nigeria needed to stop importation of foods and must begin to develop capacity to improve natural means of production.

According to him, “This time, for all, calls for sober reflection and all hands must be on deck to making Nigeria a productive nation.

“Nigerians to rededicate themselves towards improving their level of productivity because this is capable of turning the economy of the country around,” Aregbesola said.

He said that Nigerians should be properly mobilised and must return to the farm with the aim of producing enough food for the nation.

In his sermon, the Chief Imam of Osogbo land, sheik Musa Animasaun, who led the rakat prayer, urged the country’s Muslim faithful to reflect on the reasons for the celebration.

The cleric, who recalled that the sacrifice made by Prophet Ibrahim was the reason for the celebration, asked Nigerian leaders to emulate him.

He also charged the Muslim community to fear God and have faith in him as the only one that could solve the nation’s problems.
