Ekiti CJ orders release of 19 awaiting trial inmates

No fewer than 19 inmates awaiting trial were on Wednesday released on the orders of the Chief Judge of Ekiti State, Justice Ayodeji Daramola, from the Federal Prisons, Ado-Ekiti.
Daramola gave the order after reviewing the cases of the 351 awaiting trial inmates in detention during his visit to the prison.
Fourteen of the inmates were released unconditionally by the Chief Judge, while the remaining three were freed based on the advice of the state Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) that they had no case to answer.
Two other inmates were, however, granted bail by the Chief Judge, Justice Daramola, who commended the authorities of the Ado-Ekiti Prisons for maintaining a clean environment.
He, nonetheless expressed worry at the increasing number of cases of violent crimes in the country.
While noting that most of the inmates of the prison were non-indigenes of the state, he, however, commended the police and other security agencies for their efforts at crime prevention and detection.
