It was another four-day trading week as the Federal Government declared Friday,1st and Monday 4th of September, 2017 public holidays in commemoration of the Eid -el- Kabir Sallah Celebrations.
A total turnover of 887.024 million shares, worth N17.450 billion in 16,955 deals were traded last week by investors on the floor of the Nigerian Stock Exchange, in contrast to a total of 998.973 million shares, valued at N11.455 billion exchanged last week in 13,626 deals.
The Financial Services Industry led the activity chart with 729.177 million shares, valued at N8.816 billion, traded in 10,744 deals; thus contributing 82.20 per cent and 50.52 per cent to the total equity turnover volume and value,
respectively.
The Consumer Goods Industry followed with 68.153 million shares, worth N6.692 billion in 2,908 deals. The third place was occupied by Conglomerates Industry with a turnover of 32.109 million shares, worth N183.098 million in
687 deals.
Trading in the Top Three Equities, namely: Access Bank Plc, Guaranty Trust Bank Plc and Zenith Bank Plc accounted for 320.549 million shares, worth N6.909 billion in 2,643 deals, contributing 36.14 pe cent and 39.59 per ent to the total equity turnover volume and value respectively.
However, on the price movement chart for Friday, Dangote Cement Plc led the gainers’ table, appreciating by N9.79 kobo to close at N216.91 kobo, while Guinness Nigeria Plc followed with a gain of N8.94 kobo to close at N96.33 kobo.
Stanbic IBTC Plc inched up by 1.49 kobo to close at N39.90 kobo; Nigerian Breweries gained N1.40 kobo to close at N184.00; while Flour Mills Nigeria Plc added N1.00 to close at N30.00.
On the contrary, Seplat Petroleum Development recorded the highest loss for the day, dropping by N24.10 kobo to close at N457.90 kobo; Mobil Oil trailed with a loss of N0.99 kobo to close at N165.01 kobo; while NCR went down by N0.36 kobo to close at N6.97 kobo.
FBN Holdings was down by N0.26 kobo to close at N5.76 kobo, while Oando plc fell by N0.23 kobo to close at N6.30 kobo. The result further showed that Sterling Bank recorded the highest volume of activities, trading 36.583 million shares worth
N37.249million.
