Ex-gov Obi backs demand for Nigeria’s restructuring

The immediate past governor of Anambra State, Chief Peter Obi,has thrown his weight behind calls for the restructuring of the Nigerian Federation.
Obi said he supported the call for the restructuring of Nigeria based on the dictates of tje principles of equity and justice.
The former governor made Making his position known in his 56th Independence anniversary message made available to journalists in Awka.
He also called on Nigerian leaders and followers to reflect on the contributions of Nigeria’s founding fathers at all times in taking decisions concerning the nation as good leaders and as followers.
Obi said that this period of recession called for patriotism on the part of both the leaders and the led, adding that it was time for all citizens’ utmost commitment to nation-building for the benefit of posterity.
“As our country marks her 56th anniversary, there is need for all of us to reflect on the state of the nation. While we still contend with political, economic and security challenges, there is hope that if we as a people demonstrate the will, we can overcome our constraints,” he said.
Obi, who expressed support for the restructuring of the country, said that as long as some sections of the country remained marginalized, Nigeria would not progress as it ought to.
Speaking on the solutions to Nigeria’s problems, the former governor called for the diversification of the economy.
He also called for reduction of the cost of governance, adding that though common sense advocated such a necessary reduction, the current economic crisis confronting the nation had made it imperative.
He, therefore, urged all Nigerians to join hands in moving the country forward.
“Let us, therefore, work together for the progress of the country, otherwise our children will not forgive us. The society we abuse today will take its revenge on our children tomorrow, ” Obi said.
