Ex-militants allege plot to sack Amnesty programme official

Ex-militants from Edo, Rivers, Bayelsa, Ondo and Delta states have raised the alarm over an alleged plot by an unknown group of persons to remove the Head of the Onshore Education Unit of the Office of the Federal Government Amnesty Programme, Major Hassan Kesiena Mowarin (retd).
The leader of the ex-militants from Atangbala Camp, Mr. Atangbala One, made the claim in a chat with our correspondent in Benin City, Edo State.
He said since Mowarin assumed office as the Head of the Onshore Education Unit of the Amnesty Programme, he had brought his wealth of knowledge and experience to bear, resulting in the tremendous improvement witnessed in the execution of the scheme.
The ex-militants’ boss said that Mowarin’s choice by President Muhammadu Buhari was an indication that the current leadership of the country meant well for the people of the Niger Delta region.
Atangbala said because of his good work, some few individuals did not want him there as the head.
He said in order to make sure that true beneficiaries of the Amnesty Programme were selected for the scheme, Mowarin had been fighting assiduously against the commercialisation of the admission process for amnesty sponsorship, which was supposed to be free for the genuine delegates of the programme, but had since been hijacked by a cabal, who had been selling it to their cronies.
Atangbala alleged that the cabal in the system, placed the beneficiaries in schools and subsequently compelled them to remit between N30, 000 and N40,000, monthly, to them.
The ex-militant leader said because they knew that Mowarin had vigour and the ability to ensure that the scheme lived up to its billings by ensuring that only the true beneficiaries were allowed, the cabal had launched a media war to smear the image of the official.
He further said that some uninformed persons had been hired by the cabal to carry out protests against Mowarin with a view to ensuring his removal from office so that they could continue with their “blood money business.”
The ex-militant leader, however, pleaded with President Muhammadu Buhari not to listen to those calling for Mowarin’s removal as they did not mean well for the people of the oil Niger Delta.
Also speaking, the Commander, Oswo Camp, Mr. Carewe Eyesiwie, and the Chief Priest of the camp, Mr. Peter Young, commended the Presidency for the
choice of Mowarin as the Head of the Onshore Education Unit of the Amnesty Programme.
