Fayose vetoes ‘FG’s public holiday’ in Ekiti

The governor of Ekiti state, Mr Ayodele Fayose, has warned workers across the state against Monday’s public holiday declared by the Federal Government  to rejoice over President Mohammadu Buhari’s return to the country.
The governor, in a statement made available to our correspondent and signed by his media aide, Lere Olayinka, said Ekitit State would not be part of the said holiday, adding that the move was un-democratic.
“The attention of the Ekiti State Government has been drawn to a news report circulating on Social Media that the Federal Government has declared tomorrowMonday, August 21, 2017 as public holiday to mark the return of President Muhammadu Buhari to the country.

“We wish to state that Ekiti State is not part of such holiday reportedly declared by the Federal government.

“Residents of Ekiti State, especially public servants, are enjoined to carry on with their normal businesses tomorrow as no holiday has been declared in the state.”

The governor’s aide had earlier posted a message informing that the Federal Government of Nigeria had declared tomorrow 21 August 2017 as public holiday to celebrate, jubilate and commemorate the arrival of President Buhari into Nigeria after spending 103 days in London, United Kingdom for medical treatment.

“In a statement on Sunday by the Minister of Interior, Abdurahman Dambazau, the Nigerian government said all public institutions in Nigeria should use opportunity of the public holiday to pray for total recovery of the President from his undisclosed illness.

“The statement also stated that President Buhari’s media broadcast to Nigerians has been shifted from 7am to 8am.”
