Fear grips Magodo residents over abduction of monarch

Following Wednesday’s abduction of the monarch of Shangisha, a community in Magodo, Lagos, Chief Mutiu Ogundare, residents of the community are yet to recover from the shock of the news, going by their recent experience.
Our correspondent at the community, gathered that the development which occurred less than a month after a kidnap kingpin, Chukwudumeje George Onwuamadike, aka, Evans, was arrested at Magodo Estate, has now made several of the residents to express doubts if the community is still the old safe haven they knew it to be.
A resident, who simply identified himself as Shola Bada, said residents were now full of fear over the abduction of the monarch, known by his native title of ‘Baale.’ “People think it is connected with Evans’ case,” he said.
Chief Ogundare was abducted by three men along Centre for Management Development Road, Ikosi-Isheri Local Council Development area.
According to a source, Ogundare was said to have received a telephone call from supposed developers, who had indicated interest in a landed property within his domain.
The callers were said to have told the Baale where to meet them, prompting Ogundare to drive to the address with one of his brothers.
On arriving at the location, the three men, it was gathered, appealed to the Baale and his brother to join them in their White Toyota Venza vehicle so that they could go check out the land.
But on their way, it was gathered that the Baale’s brother noticed that one of the men had a gun on him and he raised the alarm.

It was also gathered that the suspected kidnappers pushed him out of the vehicle and sped off with the Baale.

Contacted, the command’s spokesman, Olarinde Famous-Cole, an Assistant Superintendent of Police, said it was not a kidnap.
He said there had been protracted disputes among Ogundare, one Shittu Lawal, and another person.
According to Famous-Cole, it was a case of rivalry between two Baales, adding that investigation had commenced.
He said, “He was not kidnaped. He had issues with some his people over a chieftaincy title. They are having protracted disputes with other chiefs. They decided to witch-hunt each other. We are investigating. There was a report of abduction yesterday. We already a have suspect to question over the case, but I will get back to you over the development.
