FRSC arrests 4 in Delta, refers them for psychiatric test

The Federal Road Safety Corps in Delta State has arrested and referred four traffic offenders to a psychiatric hospital for test.
The state FRSC Sector Commander, Rindom Kumven, disclosed this during a town hall/stakeholders meeting held in Warri to sensitize the public on the activities of the corps in the state.
Kumven said the four erring motorists referred for the psychiatric test were, however, given a clean bill of health, adding that they were later allowed to go after they had borne the cost of the test.
Kumven also revealed that the FRSC had arrested several commercial vehicle drivers for failing to install the speed limit device in their vehicles.
He noted that the command had to enforce the installation of the speed limit devise because it had been discovered that over-speeding was the number one cause of road accident in the country.
The FRSC sector commander also noted that the town hall meeting was necessary because it had been discovered that there was the need for more enlightenment campaign on road safety.
He said it had become necessary that all road users were sensitized on the hazards of disobeying traffic rules, adding that some road users did not care about their safety while driving on the road.
Kumven also noted that speed limit violation was a critical offence that would never be overlooked by the FRSC.
“All drivers are responsible for their actions and because speed limit violation is a critical offence, we will continue to ensure that road users comply with the law.
“Because of the way cars are manufactured these days, some of us do not know when we are over speeding. Sometimes one may be driving at a hundred kilometre per hour but one would feel you are driving at sixty kilometre per hour. This is because our vehicles have become more sophisticated,” he said.
The sector commander warned motorists against driving under the influence of alcohol and hard drugs, saying these could cause a driver to lose concentration.
He identified speed violation, use of phone while driving, overloading and driving against traffic as some of the critical offences causing unending road crashes in the country.
Speaking further on causes of road crashes, the FRSC Special Marshal Coordinator for Delta State, Mr. Dickson Amromawhe, grouped causes of road accidents under human, mechanical and environmental factors.
According to the Special Marshals’ boss, driving behind the wheel without full concentration can also lead to road crashes.
Other stakeholders at the town hall forum included representatives of schools, the Nigerian Army, the Nigerian Navy, the Nigerian Air Force, the Nigeria Police Force, and lecturers from the Federal University of Petroleum Resources
