Help your wives in baby-sitting, cooking, men told

Ekiti State Chairperson, International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA),Mrs Adefunke Anoma, has appealed to men to be assisting their wives in seeing to the welfare of their children at home, particularly in the area of cooking and other home shores.
She also urged the male children to be assisting their mother in the kitchen at home so that when they grow up,they will be able to assist their wives in the kitchen.
Anoma who gave the charge in Ado-Ekiti during the cooking competition organised by FIDA as part of its week-long programme for year 2017 ceremony noted that the cooking competition was organized to encourage those that has not seen reason in assisting their wives in the kitchen be doing so and also to encourage those that have been doing it to continue.
Men of Nigerian Union of Journalists were invited to contest alongside their Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, counterparts where they were told to cook for children, meaning that the food must be tender, and must not be hot and must be nutritious.
They were told to make fruit juice; the juice was a blend of watermelon, oranges and pineapple, and they also made banana pudding, and the pudding was made from a blend of ripe bananas and yolk.
Later, they were told to prepare Jollof rice as the main course within 45 minutes together and later five minutes was added to make it 50 minutes within which all the food and fruit juice must be ready.
The correspondent of Nigerian Tribune in Ekiti, Sam Nwaoko, who represented the NUJ at the competition, said he saw the cooking competition  as eye opener than a challenge. “It was an opportunity to rekindle some of those things my work life has nearly taken away from me.”
“Secondly, it afforded me the opportunity to experience the heat or pressure our women go through daily when they work tirelessly to ensure that after everything, there’s food to eat each time everyday! It was an eye opener, being something we did in public glare and had experienced women all around.
“Then there was the inner fulfilment and excitement of being appreciated by colleagues and the womenfolk, who found it commendable that I could even have offered myself for the challenge and come out well.
“It was also a testament to teamwork and understanding because colleagues in NUJ rallied around to ensure success of the outing.
“I chose to represent the NUJ when we weren’t going to be represented as there were no volunteers.
“In order not to let the union down, I offered to cook in the competition. However, I received help from Kayode Babatuyi of the FRCN Chapel and Rotimi Feyisina of State Information Chapel. They were with me all through the cooking.
“Since the competition is among male cooks, the women were also on hand to lend their support. They also made invaluable suggestions during the competition. Mrs. Ronke Samo, the Secretary of the Council, was of notable help.
“We weren’t prepared for the competition. As a matter of fact,  we arrived at the venue with nothing!
“I had neither apron nor cap. We had to borrow an apron,  as well as virtually every other needed utensil from the FIDA kitchen.
“They fetched water for us and also gave us their bowls and water containers.
“However, we made do with what was available and cooked to the best of our ability, given the circumstance.
“In the end, the food turned out to be delicious, while our juice was highly commence, and we came second at the competition”  Sam added.
Egwuata Uchenna representative of the NBA at cooking competition said he enjoyed cooking a lot, pointing out that he came first at the competition because he believed his team was more organised than the other, and the Judge confirmed
“I felt good and it has really encouraged me in the aspect,I’m finding new ways to improve my cooking not professionally though,but for personal purposes
I am a member of NBA Ado Ekiti,so I felt duty was calling to showcase my cooking skills,and I’m happy I did.
Other  member of NBA who supported Uchenna at the competition were; Miss Bolanle Scholastica and Mr Seun.
The NBA who won the competition was presented with An LG microwave Oven while a table gas was presented to the NUJ that came  second.
The invigilator, Mrs.Adekola olufunke, a dietician from work Ekiti University Teaching Hospital, (ESUTH), Ado Ekiti said the competition was for toddlers i.e age 1 to 3, first course appetizer freshly prepared fruit juice, main meal coconut jollof rice with fish and the dessert was banana pudding.
When asked on what parameter she used in picking the winner, Mrs Adekola said,  “My judgment was based on how a organied the competitors were, also the texture of the food, the taste, setting of the table, neatness, presentation and time for the preparation of the food.”
She added that the representative of NBA scored 72%, while the NUJ scored 63%, based on while she announced NBA as the winner and NUJ the second position.
The Chairperson Nigerian Association of Women Journalists , EKITI State chapter, Oluwayomi Osuntokun, said: “I congratulate Fidans  on the successful hosting of their law week and commend FIDA for the initiative, it was a great idea aimed at improving the culinary skills of male lawyers and male journalists and to encourage them to be helpful at the home front.”
In her comment, the FIDA Chairman, who commended the participant however sent her apprecuation Adeyemi Akolawole from Ado Ekiti Local Government who she said had donated the microwave for 1st position, and Chukman Electronics who also donated the able gas for second position.
