Highlighting assets, concealing flaws enhance your fashion sense – Former Miss Lux, Ifeoma Williams

Ifeoma Williams is a lawyer, a former beauty queen and an image consultant. She first shot to fame when she won the Miss Lux competition in 1998. But she has since transitioned into a foremost figure in image consulting.

She is a pacesetter for younger stylists and image consultants, who have built a career in a once uncharted path.

She says, “I love fashion; I love being stylish and I love to rebrand people to look good and smart.

“I started as a lawyer, but growing up, I became known for packaging and putting people together to come out smartly. I love fashion and I love being stylish to complement every occasion.  It’s been a very interesting and eventful journey, and I believe that when one is passionate about something, you stick with it.”

The pioneer image consultant, who recently acquired a global licence for civility training in Nigeria, looks forward to helping people to manage and project a good image whilst achieving better relationships and interactions.

Williams says, “When I came back from my training, people called me a stylist because the initial thing I did was fashion and styling.

“I had to educate a lot of people on the fact that styling is a miniscule part of image consulting. But even though styling was what I started with, it blossomed, because Nigerians are very fashionable people. It is interesting to be in the fashion cycle.”

Counseling youths willing to step into her shoes, she says, “My advice to youngsters, who are upcoming fashion designers and stylists is,z though it comes naturally, everyone should always be dedicated, weigh his purse and always consider his budget in terms of spending. Fashion is an art and getting training will actually enhance your God-given talents. My number one style guide is that trend and fashion should not equate style; this is because fashion fades but style is eternal.”

Williams notes that not every trend will suit everyone, saying, “It is alright to stay with classic and timeless trends. Know what suits you and stick with it. Above all, learn to highlight your assets and conceal your flaws. If you have k-legs, you cannot wear skirt above the knee cap. It won’t also work if you stutter.”
