How bus conductor stripped female passenger naked over N50 fare

An unidentified commercial bus conductor last Thursday half-stripped a female passenger naked, following an argument that ensued between the two of them over the payment of additional N50 bus fare at Arepo, along the Lagos/Ibadan Expressway.

According to an eye witness, who simply identified herself as Mrs. Oyeyemi, the female passenger had boarded the bus at Arepo along with another friend of hers, but the inability of the two of them to get separate seats led to a situation where she had to carry her friend on her laps during the journey.

The conductor of the bus, however, saw the uncomfortable situation in which the two ladies were travelling in the vehicle to demand payment for two seats from them. The ladies immediately offered to alight from the bus, but the driver of the vehicle sped off, pretending not to be aware of the female passengers’ protestations.

But as the ladies would not agree with the conductor’s insistence, tempers rose and the disagreement exploded in hot verbal exchanges. When the bus got to Magboro the lady sitting on the laps of her friend alighted, but this did not end the conductor’s demand for the payment of the additional N50 from the one carrying her friend.

It was at this juncture that the verbal exchanges of words degenerated into fisticuffs between the female passenger and the conductor. A brawl eventually ensued between the female passenger and the conductor, who was now attempt ing to forcibly pull the lady down from the vehicle.

Apparently enraged by the audacity of the female passenger to engage him in a fight, the conductor pulled the two legs of the lady along with her clothes, stripping her of her skirt and exposing the lower part of her body in the process.

Recounting her experience, Oyeyemi, who was one of the passengers in the commercial bus, said that the female passenger and three other ladies joined the bus which was heading towards Mowe before the incident occurred.

She said, “The four ladies were going to Mowe but the available seats were for three persons. So, one of them decided to lap the other. The conductor allowed them all in. The lady lapping the other thought she would pay for just one passenger.

“The conductor wanted the lady to pay for two seats, despite the fact that her friend sat on her lap. The lady disagreed to pay the same amount for the two of them, but the conductor refused and the ladies demanded to alight but the bus driver refused to stop.

“Following the disagreement, one of the ladies alighted at Magboro, which was twenty minutes away from Arepo and left the other lady to continue the journey. The conductor, who refused to accept N50 for both passengers, picked up a fight by trying to pull down the other lady from the bus.”

Oyeyemi added, “The angry conductor was enraged by the refusal of the lady to pay the additional N50, and so he pulled her two legs with her skirts, thereby exposing the lower parts of her body.

In retaliation, the lady drew the conductor by his neck to fight back.” She said that the incident immediately attracted people around the area, who gathered and later stopped the fight between the female passenger and the conductor. Some passers-by, however, chided the bus for unnecessarily harassing the female passenger over payment of bus fare that could not be justified.
