I can’t cope with my husband’s excessive demand for sex, woman tells court

A 25-year old woman, Fatimo Akinwunmi, has appealed to an Agege Customary Court to dissolve her four-year-old marriage to her husband, Sadiq Akinwumi, over his excessive demand for sex.
Fatimo also told the court that her husband had also formed the habit of battering her, especially whenever she refused to accede to his frequent demand for sex with her.
The housewife in her petition, filed before the court, had said her husband no longer took care of her and their child anymore as he beat her up on a daily basis.
She alleged that her husband had become irresponsible and was only interested in frequent sex with her.
The petitioner also alleged that the respondent was no longer in support of her quest for higher education, contrary to the promise he allegedly made to her when they got married in 2014.
Fatimo said, “My husband refuses to be responsible, leaving my care and that of our child to his parents.
“All he does is to sleep with me, without any form of protection, and wanting me to conceive another child, while he remains jobless.’’
Fatimo also told the court that she had to move out of their matrimonial home to escape her husband’s aggressive behavior, which was becoming a threat to her life, adding that her husband was no more responsible for her child’s upkeep.
She also accused her father-in law of aiding and abetting her husband in various forms of misdeeds.
Fatimo added that her father-in-law always “demands that I give birth to another child, and wonders why l should have just a child for his son.’’
Fatimo, therefore, pleaded with the court to separate them, saying the marriage had broken down irretrievably.
The respondent, Sadiq, was absent from the court and he had no representation.
The Court President, Mr. Philip Williams, however, adjourned the case for later hearing.
