I can’t do one thing at a time, says ex-beauty queen, Muna

Former Most Beautiful Girl in Nigeria, Munachi Abii, is a rapper / hip-hop artist, songwriter, pageant winner, television presenter and model, who performs under the name Muna.
Before, I really wanted to be seen in a certain way doing just one thing, but I didn’t know how to make peace with those other gifts God has given me. So, rather than stay afraid to explore my many gifts and different sides, I chose to be glad, thankful and showcase all that I have inside me. I feel suffocated when I’m doing just one thing
Muna, as she is fondly called, was born in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. She was encouraged to pursue her interests in music by her family, who noticed her flair for music and dance.
“I love rap and was part of the rap group, The Specimen A, in Port Harcourt. My stage name back then was Babyrella and I featured on the Terry Tha Rapman track ‘My PH Girl.’ That was really the beginning of my career in music,” the 35-year-old reveals.
The Benson Idahosa University graduate of International Relations and Diplomacy also says, in addition to music, she’s into other things like beauty pageantry, television hosting, acting, and modelling. While she was in the university, she won the Most Beautiful Girl In Nigeria pageant in 2007.
“On my doing multiple things, before, I really wanted to be seen in a certain way, doing just one thing, but I didn’t know how to make peace with those other gifts God has given me. So, rather than stay afraid to explore my many gifts and different sides, I chose to be glad, thankful and showcase all that I have inside me. I feel suffocated when I’m doing just one thing,” she says.
After her reign, she started pursuing her music career once again. She took part in the BET Awards Female Nigerian Cypher in 2011. She features in the YouTube series Indigo.
During her reign as queen, she used her platform to create awareness about polio and sickle cell diseases.
Muna sees herself as a fashion lover, saying being a model has also broadened her fashion and style.
“I love fashion a lot, I love both western and indigenous creations. So far as I’m comfortable in them, I have no problem with what I wear,” she says.
On what brings her the most happiness and satisfaction, Muna says, “I like when I dance alone, where nobody can see me. So, I’m just free to be myself. I’m also happy when I make music, and thankfully, I’m back in the studio.”
