I don’t have a style of music – Moriento

For Ifeoluwa Daniel Ayeni, fondly called Moriento, his versatility is like no other. He sees himself as a ‘chameleon’.

The graduate of Philosophy at Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba, Ondo State, told The Point that he loved to express himself, thoughts and emotions through music right from tender age. At Command Children School, Kaduna, his mother told him that he was always seen miming, singing and drumming.

But according to him, his style of music is hard to describe. He said he liked delving into multiple genres and he could use his voice in different ways.

He added, “I enjoy making traditional songs, music that takes me into myself and allows deep expression. Interpretation of good music is exciting to me; it could be rap, hip-hop, highlife or R&B.”

Composing songs comes easy to him, as he insisted that it was something he had put all his time and energy into.

He said, “If there is something you love doing and you keep doing it, it becomes part of you after sometime. For instance, if you are a mechanic and you keep doing the job properly, after some years, you would be able to knock down the engine of a car and assemble it back. So, I can put up good lyrics anytime. Mostly, I get inspiration from my own immediate environment.”

Though his parents are late, he maintained that they were happy with his music.

“My mother believed in my ability and understood me well. She liked to see me perform. My mother wanted me to do music close to Christianity.”
