I remain Onijaye, Ogun coronet Oba tells Gbagura chiefs

Acoronet traditional ruler, Oba Nafiu Adeyemi, has told the Gbagura Council of Chiefs that he remained the rightful occupant of the throne of the Onijaye of Ijaye in Abeokuta South Local Government Area of Ogun State .

The council under the leadership of the Agura of Gbagura, Oba Halidu Olaloko, had accused Oba Adeyemi of parading himself as the Onijaye of Ijaye, contrary to the title of Olu Asasin of Ijaye Titun stated in his certificate of installation.

But while reacting to the allegation, the monarch said that some “bad elements”, who had made an unsuccessful attempt to murder him, were now bent on destroying him by poisoning the mind of Oba Olaloko, who installed him as the Onijaye of Ijaye, against him.

Oba Adeyemi said, “It is very wrong when you declared somebody as Onijaye of Ijaye and now you are going contrary. And the other people should go back and trash out their differences.”

The monarch maintained that it would be an administrative error to address him as Olu Asasin of Ijaye Titun since he had in his possession the crown of the Onijaye of Ijaye.

According to him, “The government says whoever is in possession of the crown of Onijaye crown shall become Onijaye. And our title, which our people fought for is Onijaye and who is going to be Onijaye should be the person in possession of the crown. I am the only person in possession of the Onijaye crown and it’s still with me.”
