Ikoyi Club in festive mood for 20th Nigeria Cup

Ikoyi Club 1938 has commenced activities towards the successful hosting of the Nigeria Cup, billed to start tomorrow and end on October 1 in Lagos.
According to the Chairman of the Organising Committee, Bayo Alli, the male and female events would start as scheduled with the amateur and professionals also in top shape for the fiesta.
The first stage of the 20th Nigeria Cup started on September 3rd with the pre-tournament qualifiers at the Golf Section of the Club in Lagos. The Nigeria Cup was put together to celebrate the nation’s Independence anniversary and this edition promises to attract golfers from the neighboring countries like Ghana, Sierra Leone and Benin Republic.
The chairman, who is also the vice captain of the club, is optimistic that the event would definitely live up to its billing as golfers storm Lagos from Abuja, Port Harcourt, Jos and other parts of the country for the event.
“Nigeria Cup is about celebrating our national heritage; it’s about Nigeria and Nigerians and everything in it. So, we are giving our members, our sponsors and every participant a ‘great fanfare”, Alli said.
He further said, “This year’s event will be great; the ladies event will be a showpiece, the pro-am is our signature event and very unique,” noting that sponsors and players will get value for being part of the competition.
Describing this year’s edition as a novel, considering the plans already put in place, Alli said that there was no better time to celebrate the nation than now.
While commending members of the club and corporate organisations for their support so far, Alli pleaded for more, assuring that every kobo given to the committee would be judiciously spent.
