I’m not envious of Waje, though I discovered her – Pastor KSB

This is, perhaps, a part of Pastor Kennis Saint Best most people do not know. As an entertainment consultant of many years, she has opened up that she played a major role in the discovery of singer, Waje.
She told our correspondent that when Waje was introduced to her, she was nobody in the music industry, inspite of the fact that she had already done some work with Psquare.
“I was the one who introduced Waje to the Nigerian media; her record company came to me. I cannot remember the company’s name at the moment. They met with my pastor and he told them that I could do the job for them. He gave them my details and they reached me. We met, we had a meeting and we strategised on how to project Waje and what we needed to do. Fortunately for them, they had done a beautiful video. It was later I got to know that Waje had done a song with Psquare, ‘Do Me.’ When she worked with Psquare, they didn’t project her well. They didn’t mention her name in the song or put her in their video. She was 29 then,” Best said.
According to KSB, she saw something big in Waje’s voice and thought that she had a future. After seeing the video they did and the songs she had done, she added that she could tell she had a huge future in music.
Asked if she felt bad that Waje could be seen as a bigger brand than she is. She smiled and said, “It is the same way KSB as the vice president of Kennis Music had Paul Play and became bigger than me. The same way 2face came to Kennis Music and became bigger than KSB, who projected him. The same thing for Tony Tetuila, Eedris and others.”
KSB insisted that she had always known her place, which is to project other artistes. For her, it’s love for talent development that had been her driving-force.
“It was never about me and it is still not about me. When I had to step down as the vice president of Kennis Music, it was when God told me I had neglected myself and I needed to concentrate on my music. Also, I needed to play the role of a mother to my children, too. So, I didn’t want to fail as an artiste and a mother. With my experience in the profession, I know I can always do music. But in my own case, I had school fees to pay. I am a mother; so I had to put my children first before music.”
