It’s now difficult for people to take me serious, says Comedian Chigul

Chioma Omeruah, popularly known as Chigul, has demonstrated that she is not just a good comedian but a good actortoo. Playing a lead role in Banana Island Ghost(BIG), a movie produced by Bisi Alabi, Chigul said she couldn’t have done it without the support of everyone around her.

She said, “The movie is about love at the end of the day and I think we all need it. We all want acceptance, fulfilment emotionally and otherwise. I just want people to see the movie many times and be touched. The movie brought out many parts of me that people do not know.”

In the movie,Ijeoma,Chigul’s character wants to keep her father’s house in Banana Island, Lagos, by all means and she does everything to achieve that.

She explained, “My character wants so much to keep a house in Banana Island. I don’t want to give so much away, but I was more about finding a home where there is love, support and family because having a good home is the most important thing at the end of the day.The relationship that you build with people matters, as houses or material things will go away.”

Having featured in stage plays and films, she admitted that stage is always more difficult because there is no editing or going back.

She said, “On stage, what you give is what you get, unlike acting where you have enough time to edit and retake roles. But learning your lines is still a hard work and being able to improvise is not easy as well. They both take things out of you because you still have to put your best into them.I have done stage before but acting in BIG was hard too.”

Chigul disclosed that there is not much difference between her personality off and on screen.According to her, the person people see on screen is the same in reality, a fact that people living with her could testify to.

“I feel life shouldn’t be so serious. This is why I try to find fun in everything I do. I entertain; I am like this all the time. Even when I really want to be serious, people do not take me seriously. That is a problem actually. At times, I want people to look at me and take me seriously. I do it but it never seems to work,” she said.
