It’s your turn to die, man who killed younger brother tells wife

  • Family reports to Police, relocates wife

A deadly fugitive, Timothy Adeyemi, who reportedly led a group of suspected assassins to kill his younger brother a few weeks ago in Atan, Ogun State, has allegedly sent a threat message to his own wife, Madam Awawu Adeyemi, from his hideout, telling her to prepare to die. Adeyemi, allegedly led the suspected assassins to the Oju Abere, Ilogbo community residence of his younger brother, Lawrence Jacob, and had, since then, gone into hiding.

The brutal killing of Jacob created panic amongst the residents of the area, who were shocked by the strange occurrence. Jacob was shot in the temple several times by his attackers.

However, according to fresh facts emerging from some concerned family members of the runaway suspected killer, Adeyemi, barely two weeks ago, reportedly called his own wife on his mobile phone, telling her that it had been decided by his group to terminate her life.

Apparently shocked by the threat message from her husband, Awawu was said to have asked her husband why it was her turn to die, for which she got the reply, “All the derogatory comments you and my other family members have been making about me have been communicated to me.

The price for you to pay for that now is death. Just prepare yourself for it. It can come any time.” Family sources, who pleaded anonymity, told The Point that it had been decided and agreed upon that Awawu should immediately vacate her matrimonial home and take refuge where her life could be fully protected.

“We do not want to lose two persons within a spate of two months. The best we could do was to relocate Awawu, who bore him (fugitive) some children, including Seun, Dorcas and Roseline,” a family member said. While answering questions put to them by The Point, some family members of the runaway suspected killer of his own younger brother said, “Awawu got married to Timothy Adeyemi in 1993.

They were all living happily with the deceased younger brother, who built his own house before the tiny thread that held the compass of their togetherness snapped, following the brutal murder of Jacob.

His wife has been all supportive, and we wondered why Adeyemi now made her a target to die.” However, the matter took The Point to the country home of Awawu in Ogun State, last Friday, in an apparent move to hear her own side of the story.

It was a game of hide and seek all through as our correspondent’s guide was outplayed by other core family members, who said they had not set their eyes on her for years. “Awawu is not here.

Go to her husband’s home,” they tersely told our correspondent. Back at Onipanu Police Station, Ota, where the matter was initially reported, The Point was able to get the telephone numbers of both Adeyemi and Awawu. A call to Adeyemi was quite revealing. “Who is this? Who are you? You are from where? Who gave you my telephone number? Nonsense,” he said before cutting off the line without waiting for a reply. And by the time The Point called back, the line had gone dead.

When Awawu eventually answered our correspondent’s phone call, she said she was not at home. “I have heard you. I am not going to tell you anything about the matter. The reason is that, [pause], ..the matter has been resolved. I mean the matter has been settled,” she said.

Pressed further on the gravity of the matter, Awawu said, “You are a journalist? Who do you want to speak with? You cannot see me face to face now. Do not worry about me. The matter is settled.

The matter is settled. Do not worry at all. God is in control. Thank you.” The blood-letting incident that led to the death of Joseph took place at about 10.30 pm, when the victim’s elder brother, Adeyemi, and three armed young boys allegedly rode on two motorcycles into Jacob’s house and snuffed life out of him.

According to the family source, the young killers, aside from the fact that it was already dark, were all masked as they rode in commando style to the house of their target. “Nobody can say with absolute certainty the motive behind the killing,” he said.

The Point gathered that the victim’s wife, Abiodun, gave birth to a baby barely six weeks ago. Another source added that when the killers arrived at Jacob’s house, Adeyemi allegedly called out his younger brother, who was already asleep, and ordered the hooded boys to shoot him. She said, “The hooded boys brought out a pistol each and within a twinkle of an eye, rained bullets into the head of Jacob, who collapsed and sprawled
