I’ve had enough, within nine years, my wife had six children, man tells court

A 39-year-old man, Michael Ayinde, has asked an Igando, Lagos, customary court to dissolve his nine-year- old marriage to his wife, Glory Ayinde, over her inability to control her rate of child bearing.
Michael, who said his wife had an evil intention to ruin his life, said he had an agreement of having only two kids with her before marriage, only for her to turn around to becoming a baby factory by giving birth to a child every year.
He said within nine years of their marriage, Glory had given birth to six children.
Ayinde said, “My Lord, my wife wants to kill me with children. She is giving birth to children like rabbits. In nine years, she was delivered of six babies.
“Before I married Glory, I warned her that I needed only two kids, irrespective of their gender, so that I could afford their upkeep. She agreed only for her to discard the agreement after marriage.
“She was sacked from her workplace just because she was getting pregnant almost immediately after she resumed from a maternity leave.”
Continuing, Michael said, “After she had the fourth baby, I begged her to go for family planning, she refused. I had to force her to the hospital for a family planning device, but she went secretly to remove it without my consent.
“Some months later, she went to her parent’s place and sent me text message that she was pregnant. She did not return home until after delivery and also did the naming of the baby in her parent’s place.”
Michael said he had sold most of his property to cater for the children. He said he’s afraid that his wife would have more birth and begged the court to put an end to their marriage.
The President of the court, Akin Akinniyi, after listening to the husband decided to separate the couple.
He said it was obvious from available testimony and the respondent’s refusal to appear in court that the marriage had hit the
rocks.
While ruling on the matter, Akinniyi said, “Throughout the duration of this case, the respondent (Glory) refused to honour court processes. Therefore, the court has no choice than to dissolve the marriage; the court hereby pronounces the marriage between Mr. Michael Ayinde and Mrs. Glory Ayinde dissolved.
“Both parties, henceforth, cease to be husband and wife and are free to go their separate ways without any hindrance or molestation.”
