Lagos boosts war against crime

In its effort to curtail crime and criminality in Lagos State, the state Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Adeniji Kazeem has transferred 750,000 new criminal suspect forms to the Lagos State Police Command.

The forms, it was learnt, were purposely to enhance criminal justice, intelligence gathering of criminals and records keeping in the state.

While speaking on the development, Adeniji said the administration of Governor Akinwunmi Ambode is committed to ensuring the preservation of law and order and provision of effective criminal justice administration in Lagos State.

He further explained that the forms will be used to gather personal details of suspects, physical attributes, information about their next of kin and previous cases.

“With the introduction of the new forms, information about the suspects will assist in the profiling and building of important intelligence that could assist in tracing defendants and providing accurate bio-data to the courts during the prosecution of criminal cases in the state,” he said.

The commissioner also assured the state Police Command of its continuous partnership with the Force for effective and efficient justice delivery.

“The relevance of these forms cannot be over emphasised, because the information of the suspects and defendants shall be converted to an electronic data base, which could help in assessing information on previous offending pattern of a suspect, this data base will hold information about previous convictions, nature and types of offences committed by convicted persons in the state,” Adeniji added.

It was also gathered that the forms will provide assistance for the DNA data base to be built on the completion of the Lagos State DNA Laboratory, which can be interfaced with these collection of data and samples of DNA from suspects and convicted persons, that will be stored in the Criminal Data Base that will be paraded soon.

Men and officers of the state Police Command, are however, implored to make adequate use the forms and record information needed when processing suspects through the Charge Room.

Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Fatai Owoseni, who was represented by DCP Bolaji Salami, appreciated the efforts of the Lagos State governor and his commitment to making the job of policing in the state easier.
