Man attacks sister-in-law, threatens her life for calling him a miscreant

A 27-year-old man, Monday Silas Aniefok, has allegedly attacked his sister-in-law, Mrs. Lucy Monday Utien, 51, of Ikot Mkpeye town, Akwa Ibom State, for allegedly referring to him as a miscreant and a thief.
The alleged assault, which took place at a market square in the community, was, however, checked by traders and passers-by who were at the scene of the incident.
It was gathered that Aniefok had also been threatening Utien’s life whenever he came across her.
“He threatened to kill my sister. He said that whenever he meets my sister on the way or in the farm, he would attack her with a machete. He said it was my sister that labeled him a thief during a community meeting held last month,” alleged Utien’s younger brother, Moses William, who spoke to our correspondent.
Our correspondent learnt that after the alleged attack at the market square, Aniefok also went to Utien’s residence to further assault her.
It was also gathered that many petitions had been written and many complaints made against the suspect over his aggressive behaviour.
“My sister could have been killed at the market, if not for the intervention of the people that were there. Everyone was shouting at him to leave the woman. The boy is notorious. Everybody in the community knows him; they are all aware of his bad life style. On many occasions, he has been reported to the police. There was a time he was always stealing,” Utien’s brother further alleged.
It was also gathered that Utien’s father, Mr. Moses William Ekpo, reported the case at Mkpat Enin Police Division.
The suspect was subsequently arrested, detained and later released on bail.
