A 27-year-old man, Mr. Emeka Cyril, has allegedly stolen an eight-month-old baby from a shop at Alhaji Street, Odongunyan in the Ikorodu area of Lagos State.
Our correspondent learnt that the suspect, who allegedly committed the crime, hid himself at the back of the shop operated by the mother of the baby, Mrs. Florence Orji, and stealthily stretched his hands through an open space to steal the child.
Speaking to our correspondent, Mrs. Orji said while she laid the baby on a table inside the shop, the suspect managed to pull the child through the window of the store.
She said, “I was just busy outside the shop washing some clothes, when suddenly I heard something like a movement in the shop.
“I peeped inside and noticed that my baby boy had already been moved from the position I laid him. I went to the back of the shop and all of a sudden, I saw the thief hiding behind my shop. I shouted and he fled. But he was caught by residents.”
According to the nursing mother, the suspect was almost lynched but for the quick intervention of men of the Ikorodu police
division, who were alerted to the incident.
She said the suspect had been charged to
court.
