MI to quit music soon

For staunch lovers of Jude Abaga, popularly known as MI, the time for the musician to call it a quit may be near. In recent times, the award-winning artiste has been struggling to put out songs regularly like he used to do in the past.

While having a sincere chat with our correspondent, the rapper said it is becoming increasingly difficult to compete with younger musicians. He has now admitted that he will soon walk out of professional music.

He stated, “I am 10 years in the industry, I released ‘Crowd Mentality’ in 2007. I think it is a complement to me that I am being compared with the likes of Ice Prince, Olamide and Phyno, who started after me. Look at how active MI was five years ago. As you get older, you get tired of saying some things. It is hard for me now to write songs about being in a club. At this point, you start to think of what to sing about. But it is a compliment to me that after 10 years, people still expect me to be like the younger guys.”

Also, the indigene of Plateau State said being the CEO of Chocolate City Music has been harder than he thought, as it has taken his time. And, according to him, when you become a brand, you have more commitments.

“Forget about going to the office, I can work or do meeting from home. My contract with Glo just finished this year; I worked with them for seven years and I was a brand ambassador for five years. Do you know how many times I go for interviews, tours, photo shoots and all? So, when you become a brand, it becomes tougher also to keep on.” He added that he is getting older and after five music projects, it could be the end of his music career.

“Getting those projects that are in my head out, are now my focus. At some point, I have to realise that I will not be a professional musician any longer. I may still make music but the game is changed. The greatest thing an artiste can do is to be lifted up and start lifting others up too. So for me, as I was coming up, I came up with people. Now, as I begin to walk out, I am helping younger artistes to come up,” he said.
