My estranged husband threatening to kill me over our son’s custody, woman cries out

  • ‘He stripped me naked in public’
  • Let her raise ‘the bastard’ alone, hubby responds

mother of one, Wunmi Ojo, has appealed to the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Imohimi Edgal, to save her life and that of her only son, who she alleged her estranged husband planned to abduct.

She also alleged that her former husband threatened to kill her.

Wunmi was allegedly beaten and stripped naked by Seun Adejumo, the father of her only son, Joshua Adejumo, inside the premises of her son’s school, when she resisted his attempt to forcibly take the boy away.

Wunmi said that she rejected Adejumo’s request to take her son away because she suspected him to be a cult member.

The victim’s friend, Fola Adenuga, who spoke with our correspondent, corroborated Wunmi’s allegation that Adejumo forcibly attempted to take the child away from his mother to an unknown destination.

Whatever she likes, let her tell you. If you see her, tell her I am ready to deal with her. If she doesn’t release that bastard, let her raise him alone

Adenuga added that when Wunmi refused to let go of her child, Adejumo descended on her with blows and kicks, stripping her naked in the process, publicly.

She said, “We don’t trust him and we cannot release the boy to him. This is the boy that he has never catered for. Since he impregnated my friend, he has never contributed anything to the life of the boy. He only lives the life of a hoodlum, just roaming about.

“He just returned from wherever he travelled to and just came, all of a sudden, and wanted to claim the boy. We told him that the boy was okay with us. But since then, he has been trying every means to abduct the boy. He went to his school behind us to take him away, but the management didn’t allow him and they called us. When my friend got there, he descended on her and beat her mercilessly.”

The victim, Wunmi, told our correspondent that Adejumo had vowed to send cultists after her, if she failed to release the child
to him.

“As I speak to you, my life is in big danger. He has said I am not safe. He told people that he would hunt me down with cultists, if I don’t release Joshua to him. But this is a child he has never spent a dime on. He just came back from Mauritius or wherever, and came to demand for him. But I don’t trust him, I don’t know what he wants to do with him,” she said.

Narrating her ordeal in the hands of Adejumo, when he allegedly attacked her in her son’s school, Wunmi said, “When I did not allow him and his mother to take Joshua from me, they resorted to taking him behind me from his school. On getting to the school, Mrs. Taiwo, the school proprietress, called to inform me that someone wanted to take my son away. I rushed down to the school, where I discovered it was Seun. Before I knew what was going on, he descended on me and stripped me naked in public. He also threatened that it was either I left Joshua for him or he would send cult boys
after me.

“After this, I reported the case at Ayobo Police Station, where they arrested and detained all of us and only released us on bail the following day, after paying N20,000. After this, police stopped investigating the case. They only left me to my fate. That is why I am calling on the Commissioner of Police to help me, because my life is not
safe.”

The seven-year-old Joshua, told our correspondent that he wouldn’t want to be taken away by anyone from his mother.

“I don’t want to leave my mother. I don’t want to go with anyone. I want to stay with my mother alone,” he said.

When contacted on the allegations leveled against him, Adejumo, said he could deal with his estranged wife as it pleased
him.

“I am not ready to speak with any journalist. Whatever she likes let her tell you. If you see her, tell her I am ready to deal with her. If she doesn’t release that bastard, let her raise him alone. Let her go to hell. I don’t care about anyone of them,” he said angrily.

The Director of Joshabel Touch a Heart Foundation, a human rights group, Mrs. Favour Benson, said the case would be thoroughly investigated to ensure proper
justice.

“The case was reported in our office and we have decided to take it up. We will ensure justice is obtained for the woman, if the man involved is found guilty,” Benson
said.
