SUNDAY OLADEJO

Apparently tired of staying with a sick husband, a Lagos-based house wife, Yetunde Olorunda, has turned to a customary court for the dissolution of her marriage.

Yetunde, while narrating her ordeal in court, said, “I got married to my husband in February 2002, and ever since, we have been praying to God for the fruit of the womb. When I got tired of the whole situation, I went to the hospital for medical check up, and I was given a clean bill of health. After some months, I told the doctor to invite my husband for a similar test. After the test, the result proved that my husband had been inflicted with a terrible disease.

“The doctor, however, prescribed some drugs for him, which I purchased with my money. But it is very saddening to tell this court that my husband refused to take the drugs as prescribed by the doctor. I received the shock of my life shortly after that. The doctor told me in confidence that my husband had contracted an incurable disease; hence, his reluctance to take the prescribed drugs.”

While the complainant did not disclose the nature of the illness, Dele, her husband, was not in court to tell his own side of the story. The court therefore dissolved the marriage after several adjournments
