An octogenarian, Mr. Gbemi Adeyiga, has asked an Ikorodu, Lagos, customary court to dissolve his 40-year-old marriage with his wife over her alleged sexual affairs with other men and inability to cook good meals.
Adeyiga, 88, also told the court that his wife had been engaging in acts of infidelity by having affairs with different men in the community.
He alleged that due to his complaints, his wife, Sekinat, recently threatened his life.
“She frustrates me and she wants to kill me; I don’t want to die now. Please, separate us. My wife does not take care of me any longer; she does not give me good food and different men come to sleep with her in our home,” Adeyiga alleged.
But the defendant, 55-year-old Sekinat, denied all the allegations leveled against her by her husband.
She told the court that she still loved her husband and would want the marriage to continue.
Sekinat said, “I beg the court to settle us. He has never caught me with a man. He always suspects my movement to the extent that he smells my pants whenever I return from any outing.
“I want this court to settle this matter, I am not ready for divorce.’’
The President of the court, Mrs. Funmi Adeola, advised the couple to take good care of themselves and work on their individual weaknesses.
The matter was adjourned till November 30 for further
hearing.
