My wife’s fond of watching TV in neighbour’s room without her underwear, cleric tells court

A 57-year-old cleric, Minkail Abdul-Hammed, has asked an Igando, Lagos, Customary Court to dissolve his 17-year-old marriage to his wife over her alleged usual attitude of going to neighbour’s room to watch television without wearing her panties and brassiers.
Abdul-Hammed said his wife, Titilayo, who already had six children for him, had brought a lot of shame upon him on several occasions by exposing her nudity to neighbours.
He added that Titilayo was also in the habit of walking around the compound with only her wrapper tied to her chest, thereby exposing her nakedness to other neighbours.
The cleric told the court, “My wife’s nakedness was seen freely by other neighbours. My wife is fond of tying only wrapper while going to watch television in the neighbourhood, despite the fact that I installed television sets in all our rooms.
“There was a day I came home from the mosque and was looking for my wife because she did not come for the Jumat prayer. I was told she was in the third house. So, I went there and met her in front of the TV with residents of that house. I queried her for preferring TV to mosque and ordered her to follow me home. She refused and as I was trying to push her out of that room, her wrapper fell, and behold my wife was neither wearing a pant nor brassiere. The occupants of the room saw my wife’s nakedness live and direct and were making jest of us. I was embarrassed and
ashamed.”
He also accused his wife of being fetish.
Abdul-Hammed said, “Recently, I noticed that my wife always locked her room and kept the key to herself whenever she wanted to take her bath or do anything within the premises.
“One day, she went to buy something and locked her room as usual. I searched for the duplicate key because I was curious and opened the door. I sighted a paper on which a long incantation was written and my name was mentioned.
I was to search her closet when I heard her footsteps. I quickly locked the room and I took the paper to show to her family
members.’’
Titilayo was not in court to defend herself. The case was adjourned for hearing at a later date.
