My wife’s too aggressive, fights everybody, cleric tells court

  • He’s failed to care for his 5 step-kids, says wife

A 79-year-old cleric, Prophet Bolaji Moses, has urged an Agege Customary Court to dissolve the marriage between him and his wife, Bolaji Deborah, over alleged constant fighting.
Moses told the court that ever since he married his wife out of pity with her five children, she had formed the habit of fighting with everyone in his house and church.
He said that her incessant fighting had forced five of the prophets in his church to leave.
The cleric explained that his wife had gone to the extent of fighting a person recovering from an ailment and whenever he tried to call her to order, she would bite him on his hand and head.
Prophet Moses told the court that he had complained to his wife’s aunt, who had failed to take any action.
He said that he was constrained to take the matter to court.
Moses said, “I met my wife and her children sleeping in a church and I took pity on her. I told her to work for me in my church for the upkeep of her children, but ever since she came, she fights often with the church members. She is fighting with five Prophets in the church. We talked to her, but she refused to heed. So, those prophets are leaving. These prophets said they couldn’t do anything to her because she is my wife.
“Again, two persons in my house were and my wife picked up a fight with one of them, I asked if she wanted to kill the person, but she didn’t answer me. I got tired; so, I filed a suit for divorce. She picked up a fight with me, too, because I filed a suit against her in the court. She refused to collect the papers. We have since been fighting; she bit me on my hand and head and I bit her back after she poured me water one day.”
The complainant also claimed that his wife was in the habit of not caring for his other children, adding that was why he stopped giving her money.
Responding to the allegations by her husband, Deborah said that Moses had only lied against her.
She told the court that she had always been a good wife, but her husband chose to pay her back by not catering for her five children, as he promised before they got married.
Deborah accused her husband of not caring for her five children, saying he was only concerned about his own kids.
She further alleged that her husband seized the only shop he gave her out of 12 he had because he wanted to bring in his last wife without informing her.
The court adjourned the case to August 17 for further hearing.
