The new Emir of Borgu, Alhaji Muhammed Haliru Dantoro, Kitoro IV, has officially received his letter of appointment as the new Emir of the Kingdom from the Niger State Governor, Alhaji Abubakar Sani Bello. Bello charged the new traditional ruler to sustain and improve on the legacies left behind by his father, the late Alhaji Haliru Dantoro, the Kitoro III.

The presentation of the letter in Minna, witnessed by some top government officials and held in the Government House, officially ushered in the new Emir as a member of the Niger State Traditional Council in charge of Borgu Emirate.

Speaking extensively on the virtue of the late Emir, the Governor described him as a man of justice who was like a father to him, urging the new Emir to sustain his father’s legacy and even exceed it. He said, “I have confidence that the new Emir who is the first son of the late Emir will live up to expectation in the task of leading the people of Borgu.

“I am not unaware of the dreams of the late Emir for the development of his Emirate and that all the dreams he had for Borgu will remain dear to my heart as a governor and I will make sure that it is realised and actualised for the people of Borgu Emirate.”

He explained that presenting the letter of appointment to the new emir was in conformity with section 3 sub sections 1, chapter 19 of the law of Niger State, which gave him the enabling power to appoint a new Emir when a vacancy exists in any of the emirates in the state. “Having consulted with the members of the Niger State traditional council, I approved the appointment of the new Emir as the 17th Emir of Borgu with effect from 7th November, 2015,” he said.
