No herdsmen, farmers’ clash in my domain, says Abia monarch

The traditional ruler of Ndi Uduma, Awoke, in Ohafia Local Government Area of Abia State, Ezeogo Kalu Uduma Nchonwa, has said that no violent clash occurred between Fulani herders and farmers in his domain.

Nchonwa stated this while speaking with our correspondent against the backdrop of alleged planned reprisal attack on the community by Fulani herdsmen over the alleged killing of one of their kinsmen in the area.

He said since the report of the alleged planned reprisal attack filtered into the community located between Ohafia and Arochukwu Local Government Areas, the people had been leaving their homes in droves.

“The truth of the matter is that we don’t know the perpetrators of the incident. Secondly, it neither occurred in our community nor farmland. All efforts to explain this to the authorities have fallen on deaf ears,” he lamented.

The monarch of the community located about four kilometers from the Goodluck Ebele Jonathan Barracks, said since the June 8, 2017 incident, his subjects had been noticing strange persons and movements around the community.

“We have also not been going to our farms. And this is very dangerous for an agrarian community like ours. What this means is that if the situation remains unchecked, our crops will all rot away,” the monarch added.
