No fewer than 11, 990 prohibited bags of rice will be handed over to Internally Displaced Persons in Yobe State, the Ogun State Command of the Nigeria Customs Service has said.

The Command’s Public Relations Officer, Mr. Abdullahi Maiwada, disclosed this in a chat with our correspondent in Abeokuta.

Maiwada said that about 1,129 jerry cans of 25 litre vegetable oil and 29 jerry cans of palm oil would be given to the IDP camps.

He said that the handing over of the items followed  a directive from  the Command Headquarters through a letter dated November 10, 2017 that the  state command  should give out the items seized in Abeokuta and the Idiroko area to the IDPs camp.

“We usually get presidential directive to hand over those bags of rice to IDPs through the Nigerian Army Transport and Logistics. So, as I’m talking to you, we are going to hand over more than 11, 990 bags of rice, 1, 129 jerry cans of 25 litre vegetable oil to IDPs in Yobe,” he said.

According to the letter, “In line with the command’s vision in ensuring the facilitation of condemnation of seized goods in competent court of law, the command has secured a directive from headquarters vie NCS/ADM/MGT/021/S.72/VOL.II dated 10th November, 2017.

“The following items are 11, 990 bags of rice , 168 jerry cans of 25 litre  vegetable oil  from Abeokuta location and 961 Jerry cans of 25 litre vegetable oil from Idiroko location as well as 29 jerry cans of palm oil.”

The Command’s PRO said that the food items given to the IDPs in Yobe were part of the Federal Government’s initiative to ameliorate the hardship faced by the people as a result of insurgency.

He noted that the command had handed over more than 300 vehicles to successful winners, who had paid their dues in the e-auction initiative introduced by the Comptroller General of Nigeria Customs Service, Col. Hameed Ali.
