Ogun Headmistress’ assault: NUT steps in, vows to seek justice

Following the alleged assault on a former headmistress of Top-Teez Nursery and Primary School, Ifo, Ogun State, Mrs. Ayodeji Orojo, in Ojodu Berger area by policemen, the Nigeria Union of Teachers has demanded an apology from the police.

The NUT said that the police must apologise to the school over the alleged assault perpetrated against Orojo by two policemen.

NUT President, Mr. Micheal Olukoya Alogba, told our correspondent that the union would not condone any kind of violence perpetrated against its members, warning that offenders would be brought to book.

Alogba said, “It is barbaric. It is a show of impunity and I want to appreciate the Ogun State Government for showing willingness to investigate the matter. The fact that they (policemen) lost a stabiliser should not make them to misbehave. The NUT wants the matter properly investigated and all the officers involved punished accordingly, to serve as a deterrent to others.

“The police authorities should as well tender apologies to the school and the education sector in general. That is not the way to go about it and unfortunately, this reflects the character of an average policeman in this country today.”

Last month, some hoodlums attacked the Ojodu Abiodun Police Station and in the process, a stabiliser belonging to the Divisional Police Officer got missing. But the police found the electrical appliance in the compound of a 10-year-old pupil, identified as David.

Six policemen stormed the boy’s school, where Orojo served as a head teacher, disrupting academic activities in the process.  Orojo, who queried the action of the policemen, was allegedly beaten up and her phone seized, after she allegedly attempted to record the attack.
