Ogun Police arrest man,33, for killing farmer over cassava tubers

The Police in Ogun have  arrested one  Azeez Kilani, 33, for allegedly killing one  David Adima after stealing cassava tubers on  his farmland.
The suspect was said to have murdered the victim, when the deceased,52, caught him stealing some of his cassava tubers on his farmland at Sojulu village in Ifo Local Government Area of the state.
He was among the 44 suspects paraded by the  State Police  Commissioner, Ahmed Iliyasu, at the Police  Headquarters, Eleweran, Abeokuta, whose crimes ranged from armed robbery, kidnapping and stealing, among others.
Iliyasu  said that the suspect was arrested, when a resident of the village, Peter Ator, reported the case  at Ibogun Divisional Headquarters that the victim was killed on his farmland by the suspect.
He said, “A case of murder was reported by one Peter Ator  of Sojulu Village at Ibogun Divisional Headquarters. He reported that one David Adima left home to his farm situated at Alaparun area of Ibogun.  On getting to the farm, he met one Azeez Kilani stealing his cassava tubers. Since the thief was well known by the deceased, he decided to sniff life out of him to cover his tracks”.
But speaking with journalists, the suspect, who said he did not mean to kill the deceased,  attributed his action to the handiwork of the devil.
He said, “He met me at his farm, he beat me and we fought together. I did not want to kill him but it was the handwork of the devil”
The suspect , a farmer, said he left the dead body of the deceased on the farm after killing him with a cutlass, but the villagers discovered his dead body the following day.
The father of four, who said he gave the deceased the farmland to cultivate, said that he regretted his action.
In another development, the police in the state have also arrested one Paul Alanla over an alleged human trafficking business.
The suspect was arrested after the police rescued six minors, whose ages range between 6 and 13years from his place at Isiu area of Owode-Egba area of the state.
The minors names are: Promise Augustine (13) Elijah Emmanuel (7) Moses Kariel(12) Victor Daniel (8) Glory Emmanuel (9) and Felicia Owu(12).
But the suspect denied the allegation, saying that he wanted to use them for child labour business and that he already had an agreement with the children’s parents on the business.
