Despite the news that Mavin boss, Don Jazzy and YBNL general, Olamide, have called off the beef between them after the fiasco of the Headies awards, fan and lovers of music in the Nigerian entertainment world are apprehensive that the feud between the entertainment big guns may mark the beginning of the end of the award organiser, the Headies.

Starting with the controversial award (Next Rated) that was handed to Reekado Banks, which many believed should have gone to Lil Kesh, music followers, especially stakeholders in the industry, are of the belief that the organisers seemed biased in the conduct of the awards.

Sources that spoke with our correspondent said that if the controversy of the awards which led to the feud between Don Jazzy and Olamide was not carefully managed, it might affect the most popular entertainment awards show in Nigeria negatively.

WIZKID AND HEADIES

The Point gathered that a related issue of controversy of the Headies award organisers was one of the reasons popular singer, Wizkid, did not attend this year’s awards despite winning the Best R and B/Pop album of 2015.

It was learnt that Wizkid felt he should have won in the 2014 edition of the event but the award in his category went to another artist.

‘HEADIES HAS LOST IT’

One of the Nigerian leading disc jockeys, did not hide his feelings despite the reconciliation between Olamide and Don Jazzy. He affirmed that the Headies organisers had totally lost fame with the 2015 edition.

In his open letter to the Headies award organisers, DJ Ayanleke argued that the organisers of the event had no doubt lost their fame in the Nigerian music industry.

He said, “The Headies as an award should be credible and not just over hyped. We have hundreds of award shows every year in Nigeria and they are not as controversial as this one. The Headies award is still not appreciating certain artistes, producers, entertainers and DJs, who work 24/7 to make sure they bring out the best.

“Over the years, Ayo Animashaun and the HipTv family have proven that it is money over integrity and that is why he always ignores the choices of majority of Nigerians or could it be that they innocently don’t even know what they are doing?

I watched BET African awards live and MTV and I could see a very huge difference in all aspects. You still have a lot to learn. Another disturbing fact is that Headies as an award is creating bad blood among colleagues in the Nigerian music scene.”

He added, “The Headies is the reason we have not seen collaborations among certain musicians.

Tell me why Phyno, Davido, Falz, Solidstar and many other music producers and artistes, who have been topping charts this year, were not recognised? Next rated of all the categories, this is the only one worth arguing over.

Even though this is a voting category, I stand by millions of Nigerians to say that Lil Kesh or Kiss Daniel deserve the awards. “What are the reasons? Lil Kesh has more hit tracks, swag, stage performance, composure and in the long run Lil Kesh may last longer for years to come. In fact, I would rather invest N10m on Lil Kesh’s career than Reekado’s. That is not to say Reekado is not hardworking or he does not have the talent, but Lil Kesh has that special something.”

ORGANISERS NOT GUILTY – TEE MAC

A former President of the Performing Musicians Association of Nigeria, Tee Mac Iseli, while reacting to what many have described as a show of shame at the Headies award, said he thought the organisers needed to put their house in order.

He told The Point, “The organisers of the Headies like controve
